At Costco today I found the Anne of Green Gables DVD collection on sale for $49.99 and into the cart it went. Once upon a time I used to own the VHS tapes but gave them away when we retired our VCR. I absolutely adore these movies. When they used to only come on during PBS pledge drives I fondly remember being glued to the television each time Anne made her annual appearance. To this day I still have a crush on the actor who played Gilbert Blythe. Jonathan Crombie: be still my heart.
2009 in Pearls and Heels
How excited was I when I got home today and found my Mad Men calendars waiting for me on the dining room table?! I’m so looking forward to spending the months of 2009 surrounded by vicarious pearls, heels, and pencil skirts. Unfortunately the calendar (designed by Dyna Moe) is sold out at Zazzle, but she still has some pretty fab framable pieces on sale.
Luxury Plush Throw in Blush
Remember your favorite teddy bear and how soft and comforting it felt to hold it? How about the silky fur of a Persian kitten sleeping on your lap? Well my favorite teddy got washed and went from being called Fluffy to Scruffy, and long-haired cats make me want to curl up and die from allergies so when I felt this blanket for the first time I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.
CK and I actually came across these blankets back in October during our trip to Seattle. It was raining and we hanging out in a mall until it was time to go to the airport. While browsing around Restoration Hardware we stumbled upon magical decadent brown leather club chairs covered in the absolute softest throws I’d ever felt. I would have gladly stayed there all day snuggled up with those cozy blankets, but instead we flew back to Boston and I bought throws for my mom, grandmother, and sister for Christmas. Then I proceeded to steal my sister’s throw and curl up in it anytime she wasn’t looking. I was so annoyed with myself for not buying one, but CK (aka the best boyfriend ever) secretly ordered one online and it arrived today. In pink of course.
Perhaps the best part is that they’re on sale right now. I’m sure they wont last long and it’s going to be a long cold winter. Why not invest in something comforting that will make you forget that fact for a few moments?
New Bright Berry (aka Pink) Coat
While I wasn’t able to get the Royal Violet Lady Day Coat from J. Crew, I did finally buy a coat this weekend. I ended up with the Bright Berry Lady Day Coat, which I’m proud to report is equally as happy a color as the purple version I originally coveted.
The best part is that I got it on sale! I’m so glad I waited, and I’m equally grateful to J.Crew-aholics for constantly reminding me about special promotions and coupons.
Let the grumpy snowflakes fall as they will, my new pink coat has cheerful superpowers that will melt their slushy misery! Bring on the snow days, I’m ready for you. Now I just need to find the perfect accent scarf. Should it be cream? Black? A contrasting color? Or a lighter shade of pink? Decisions…decisions…
What Would Joan Do?
Ever wonder “What Would Joan Holloway Do?” Well now you can make her do whatever you want. The awesome illustrator behind all of those fabulous Mad Men wallpapers just released a Joan Holloway paper doll. Personally I’d like her to whip up a pitcher of martinis and teach me how to recreate her fabulous up-do. By the way, if you’re looking for a gift to fill my new pink Christmas stocking this will do just fine.
The Weekly Pink Links – Wear it Proud Edition
Literally mere moments ago I frantically pulled out my wallet and ordered this adorable tee that pays homage to the unfortunate demise of Mother’s Original Circus Animal Cookies this week. Doesn’t that slogan make you feel a little weepie? Hold on I need a tissue… [link via Slashfood].
A cute cookie tee undoubtedly needs a pair of pretty funky shoes to match so when Rachel tweeted about these hot cupcake sneakers today it occurred to me that perhaps the pink culinary clothing inspired stars have aligned this afternoon.
And just because the hypothetical ensemble I’m creating in my mind isn’t over the top enough, might I suggest some Birthday Cake bling? My grandmother used to decorate a strawberry birthday cake for me each year in almost exactly this very style, sans the yellow of course.
A Royal Violet Coat
I know I go a little loopy with the whole pink thing, but in reality it’s not my favorite color. My actual favorite color is purple and has been since I was five years old. In kindergarten I had a lavender spring coat, purple jelly shoes, and would only eat grape popsicles, but in general I don’t buy that many purple colored clothes. I have a sweater and maybe a shirt or two, but yesterday I found the most gorgeous purple winter coat online. It’s absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, it’s also $330. Which I don’t think I could ever seriously justify purchasing in a million years. Although believe me I’ve been trying for two days. So far my internal argument includes the following:
- I haven’t bought a new winter coat in three years, which technically means I’ve saved hypothetical money and I should allow myself to buy the coat.
- Winter in New England is dreary, dismal, and downright depressing. My current wool coat is black. Not exactly a mood lifting color. I theorize that this royal violet coat with accompanying grape cashmere scarf will allow me to skip about the streets in a happy daze during the bi-weekly snowstorms we’re bound to have.
- It’s pretty! It will make me feel pretty. My ratty old coat from The Gap that I bought on clearance definitely does not.
Update: I just checked availability and all of my dreams have been dashed as the coat is sold out in not only my size but pretty much every size. It’s October 7th! How can J. Crew already be sold out of a winter coat? Boo! If you happen upon a pretty purple coat in your own shopping travels will you please let me know? I’m completely enamored with the idea now.
